This Doctor Visit Role Play is a practical ESL speaking activity designed to help students communicate confidently in English when visiting a doctor. Students work in pairs and take turns playing the roles of a doctor and a patient.
The activity gives learners an opportunity to practice describing symptoms, explaining how long they have felt sick, answering questions about their health, asking for advice, and discussing possible treatments.
Students can use the role play to practice useful real-life expressions such as:
- “What seems to be the problem?”
- “What are your symptoms?”
- “I’ve had a headache for three days.”
- “My throat has been hurting since yesterday.”
- “When did the symptoms start?”
- “Does it hurt when you move?”
- “Are you taking any medication?”
- “I think you should get some rest.”
- “You should drink plenty of water.”
- “Do I need to take any medicine?”
- “When should I come back for a check-up?”
